The Brief

Feeling frustrated with their previous development agency and the limited flexibility and customisation options available on their previous website, The Grand Hotel were looking for a new website and a new development partner. They wanted to be able to easily update pages and content across the site without being limited by templates and such. The new website also needed to incorporate their updated branding and the key goal was to design and build a website that expressed the elegance and luxury that York’s 5 star hotel had to offer.

Our Approach

The previous website was built on WordPress and the new site needed to continue to use a Content Management System that the client was familiar with. WordPress also has a wide variety of powerful page builder extensions available which would provide the flexibility to build, edit and customise the pages and content across the site that The Grand were looking for.

At the discovery meeting, we worked with the client to understand all we could about what The Grand knew they wanted. This involved competitor research, understanding user groups and target audience, likes and dislikes from the previous website, and any ‘nice-to-haves’.

Analysing user behaviour of the current site helped to inform the structure of the new site, using this data to identify pain points and strengths of the site so we could ensure learnings were taken through the build.

Creating multiple concepts initially so we could work with the client to evolve the designs to ensure these delivered against objective.  As with all our projects, we created a set of desktop and mobile designs so everyone had a good understanding of how the new site should look, flow and function.

Development and internal testing followed design sign off. With a clear understanding of the scope and the design of the new website, the development was turned around quickly and with little to no issues.  We worked closely with third-party providers to ensure the designs were mirrored across external booking portals. As well as ensuring the successful integration with multiple booking systems for both room and restaurant bookings, increasing on-site conversions

The Results

The conversion rate increased by 91% YoY following site launch.
Multiple additional development projects including Phase 2 and Phase 3 changes and improvements to The Grand Hotel website, and the development of a new website for their Cookery School!
Organic visibility increase by 6% across core terms.
Successful integration with multiple booking systems for both room and restaurant bookings, increasing on-site conversions.
Clear tracking has been implemented allowing for accurate and detailed understanding of user behaviour.
